Black East Indie
The East Indie originated in North America in the early 1800’s. They are bantams but are not as short and plump as the calls. They tend to be racy like mallards. Heads should be oval with bold eyes. Body carriage should be horizontal. They are known for their black color with a brilliant green sheen. Birds do get white feathers after their first molt.
I cull birds for size and color. Plumage can sometimes have browns in it or white in the chest feathers. This is not desirable. A purple sheen should not be seen. Although, I feel sun exposure can cause this.
I kept more birds this year than I thought I would. So I should have 3 or 4 breeding pens next year. They have continued to show well for us. I will have some of my breeder birds for sale in June 06.
