Snowy Mallard
These birds belong to my oldest son. We will be retiring our original pair, “Sally and Elvis,” to the pet pen. They just don’t have the type or color that our newer line of birds have. We hatched a lot of birds this past year. We ended up adding a drake and 2 hens back into the breeding pen for next year. I rotated an original pair and the pet pair out of the pen.
We’ve shown these birds quite a bit. The drake and cockerel have been Best Variety at both the Jr. and Open divisions. The drake also has a Reserve Best of Breed. These birds have great type. A couple of judges have commented that they are too dark. One of the pullets I kept this year is lighter in color. She will be mated with the cockerel in the spring.
These birds are as beautiful as the snowy calls, but much easier to hatch.
